Whom do you take your advice from?

E-mail Print

If you've bought your house, how much advice did you take from the estate agent selling the house? And when you bought your car, did you get an independent inspection done?

There are a shocking number of people that are genuinely unable to tell the difference between independent advice and biased sales-talk. They take the word of the salesman as gospel even though he has a vested interested in presenting information in the most profitable light.

It's cringingly embarrassing to see the number of people who use "independent" financial advisors to help choose their investments. These independent advisers are not independent at all, they are just not affiliated with the actual investments.

They are brokers, ie. salesmen. All of the advice they give is biased because they take a commission.

You will not be a success in your investments if you take your buying advice from salesmen. Your need to make your own decisions in life and you need to base those decisions on genuinely financial advice. And that doesn't mean taking the advice of "Dave from down the pub" either.

You should take your advice from independent sources, who are not trying to sell you something, but they should also be well informed sources. Sources who have already been very successful following their own advice.

When you take advice on anything in life, check your sources.

Do they have a vested interest in your decision or are they impartial?

Are they well informed? Have they already proven themselves by following their own advice in this field.

If the answer is no to either of these, take the advice given very very carefully and immediately seek other sources.

Do not mistake brokers for advisors. Do not mistake a bank manager for a financial advisor. They are all just salesmen.

Don't take buying advice from a seller.
